Glass Lamps
Atlas is named after one of the most powerful characters in Greek mythology, Atlas was the son of the Titan Iapetus and the Oceanid Asia or Clymene. He was a Titan condemned to hold up the celestial heavens for eternity. Atlas also plays a role in the myths of two of the greatest Greek heroes: Heracles and Perseus. According to the ancient Greek poet Hesiod, Atlas stood at the ends of the earth. It is said Atlas was skilled in philosophy, mathematics, and astronomy. In antiquity, he was credited with inventing the first celestial sphere. In some texts, he is even credited with the invention of astronomy itself.
The glistening orbs of this lamp represent the earth and the stars. The shapes of the spherical balls reflect and refract light in a myriad of patterns.
